Here at SRTS Derby, we are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our Instrumentation, Test and Measurement (ITM) team.  Reporting into the Engineering Services Manager, the Principal Engineer is the supervisory lead for the ITM team and is responsible for providing technical solutions that meet our contractual arrangements to deliver on-site testing and technical reporting in accordance with applicable requirements and standards. 

 

In addition to bringing leadership and technical expertise to the ITM team, the Principal Engineer is actively engaged in supporting the strategic direction of the business and is supported/empowered to make positive change.  There has never been a better time to join SRTS Derby.  We are undertaking some exciting projects and the Principal Engineer will be pivotal in shaping the 'here and now' alongside shaping the future. 

 

 

Responsibilities and Personal Qualities of the Principal Engineer

 

  • Lead/oversee/support the delivery of customer projects from inception to completion on all aspects including commercial negotiation, customer liaison, equipment preparation, personnel readiness, and resource planning. 
  • Identify and lead ITM team improvement activities
  • Identify and lead resolution of potential technical vulnerabilities
  • Identify business development opportunities and lead technical implementation
  • Ensure that ITM team work is conducted in accordance with all relevant Health and Safety requirements and compliant to engineering standards and legislation
  • Demonstrate professionalism when communicating with customers, prospects, and external authorities
  • Actively pursue personal and professional development
  • Proactively manage own day to day workload
  • Actively pursue the technical and professional development of the Engineering team
  • Actively support knowledge management and knowledge transfer
  • Prepare/supervise justified costed proposals for management review
  • Author/review/approve (where delegated) technical/business documentation
  • Provide remote support to the Engineering team/customers as required
  • Lead the development of future hardware and software capabilities
  • Prepare/supervise justified costed proposals for management review
  • Actively represent SRTS in external arenas

 

 Requirement for the Principal Engineer role: 

 

  • Professionally registered Engineer (or shown to be working towards)
  • Recognised academic qualification to a minimum Level 4 in a mechanical/electrical Engineering discipline (alternative academic qualifications with relevant experience acceptable)
  • Multi-disciplinary qualifications, skills, and experience across both electrical and mechanical fields
  • Technical knowledge of instrumentation/data gathering hardware and data processing/analysis. 
  • Recognition of SRTS in-house facilities and equipment (site walk around will be conducted for this)
  • Proven experience in leadership, skill at hand, professional/business improvement and working in customer facing environments
