Principal Field Engineer - Backbone

£35-36k basic + bonus + excellent benefits 

Our Fibre Engineering Installation teams play a fundamental role in our ambitious plans to bring world class full fibre FTTP broadband to London.

We’re looking for Principal Fibre Engineers/Field Engineers who have the right skills, drive and attitude to work on our core network build.

As a Principal Fibre Engineer, you will help us build the dream of superfast reliable broadband - from the newly laid network infrastructure in the streets through the router in the customer premises. 

What you’ll do

  • Ensure effective site operations and coordination of works compliant to NRSWA and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are followed by teams and feedback to supervisors/manager findings.
  • Ensure all work on site is carried out to adequate standards as stated in contractual specification.
  • Maintain productivity objectives as set by Head of Department.
  • Ensure all site-specific method statements/risk assessments are in place.
  • Train of new starters.
  • Assisting Supervisors with day to day workload
  • Ensuring all jobs are managed through to completion
  • Coach new engineers
  • Working closely with Supervisors/Manager to achieve teams KPI’s

Skills, experience and qualifications (essential) 

  • An excellent understanding of FTTP/FTTC build activities
  • An excellent understanding in PON and active ethernet technologies
  • Strong communication skills are a must
  • A high personal drive to deliver within set KPIs
  • Strong personal track record of achievement and/or project delivery within Telecom industry
  • Knowledge of fibre types
  • Previous experience operating iOLM and OTDR
  • Experience in fibre splicing
  • Use of Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Management skills
  • Be self-motivated and with a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Ability to collect and analyse a wide range of data and use it for clear and targeted action plans.
  • Be able to work efficiently in a team as well on their own.
  • SLD interpretation
