Principal Mechanical Engineer - Berkshire

Overview

Important: All applicants must be able to obtain Security Clearance *minimum 5 years UK residency*

Working: The role is office/hybrid based with occasional travel to other company/customer's sites in the UK or abroad.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for conducting Mechanical Design Engineering tasks throughout the mechanical lifecycle

Responsibilities consisting of but not limited to:

  • Requirements Analysis
  • Mechanical System Design (3D Creo or Autodesk Inventor)
  • Mechanical Details Drawing (2D in the above MCAD packages)
  • Mechanical Assembly Drawing (2D in the above MCAD packages)
  • Component Selection (COTS Items)
  • Design Documentation (Test Reports, Trade Studies,etc)
  • Stress Analysis and Reporting
  • Environmental & Thermal Analysis and Reporting
  • Using the Engineering Change Process where applicable during the development or Production Lifecycle
  • Production Support (where required)
  • In-Service Support (where required)
  • Configuration Management Support (through the companies PLM tool, Windchill)
  • Use of mechanical version control tools and issue tracking tools during mechanical lifecycle.

  • Adhere to the company's mechanical engineering processes and procedures.
  • Delivery of mechanical components into project and business level configuration and data management systems.
  • Supports Bids by providing input on technical solutions estimates and plans.

Experience needed:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Proven Mechanical Design Experience
  • Experience in design and documentation using MCAD PLM and ERP tools (Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Windchill or IFS)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders/customers/suppliers on a regular basis
  • Ability to write technical reports or plans and present information to line manager, project management team and peers.
  • Experience in technical leadership / coaching or mentoring.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience in Environmental & Thermal Analysis and Reporting, using in-CAD FEA tools, standalone FEA tools and hand calculations.
