Serco Defence are recruiting for a Projects & Maintenance Manager to work as a key member of our dedicated team at RAF Fylingdales. As our Projects & Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of project delivery, planning, maintenance, logistics and radiation safety. This role will ensure that all SSPAR projects are managed in accordance with current legislation, the conditions of the contract and within the appropriate authority commercial guidelines.

 

We are looking for individuals who have strong capability of acting without detailed direction and effective decision-making skills which identify safety considerations, operational output, customer expectations and Serco values, policies, and procedures. You will be responsible for the leadership of 15 direct reports, and therefore will need significant experience in training and development.

 

This is a permanent position based at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, offering employment in a unique engineering environment which may require occasional travel for training and operational support at other Serco sites.  

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead the operational service delivery of the departments under their control in line with contractual commitments and requirements.
  • Actively manage and promote positive Health, Safety and Wellbeing including all aspects of CDM that apply to projects, upgrades, or facility modifications.
  • Oversee all planning activity associated with all aspects of maintenance and project delivery to ensure that the SSPAR and its missions are supported.
  • Act as the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) and be responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient discharge of duties as directed by the Head of Establishment (HOE).
  • Fully understand the specific radiation hazards on site and ensure adequate radiation protection arrangements are in place to minimise the radiation hazard.
  • Provide exceptional leadership to all direct reports including having a clear understanding of the business goals, operational delivery, and their role in achieving them.
  • Management and development of the contract's customer relationship using appropriate CRM tools and providing customers with innovative solutions and capability options to support the organisations operation, transformation plans, and business goals.
  • Identify and implement strategic service improvements and business efficiency measures across areas of responsibility.
  • Business development duties including horizon scanning for new and organic opportunities and the development of ROM costs, business cases and full commercial pricing proposals.

 

What you'll need to do the role: 

We are looking for someone with a degree in a relevant subject such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent, plus at least 5 years' experience of working in a management position and project delivery. You will need experience of managing logistics' teams within a similar environment, demonstrating a track record of achievement, alongside experience of managing sub-contractors in project delivery.

 

You will need to be a strong leader with ability to motivate and influence your team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships are a must. We are looking for individuals with an inspiring nature who are engaging, entrepreneurial, challenging with a supportive management style. This role requires commercial acumen so ideally you will be experienced in PRINCE2 and business awareness with strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking capability. 

 

Successful applicants will also need sound knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace, particularly as this role oversees Radiation Protection and CDM Regulations.

Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must be able to pass SC clearance, which includes a criminal records check. Additionally, as the role is related to UK Defence, only UK nationals can be considered for the role as directed by the MOD.
