Regional Risk Manager

Your new role

We have a fantastic opportunity at National Highways for a Regional Risk Manager to join us in the Regional Investment Programme (RIP) within Major Projects (MP) directorate, working on one of our largest and most impactful projects in the North of England. 

The successful candidate will report to our offices based in Birmingham however here at National Highways, we have a hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/agile home working. 

Within this role you will provide fundamental assistance to the Head of Risk and Change and regional delivery team in ensuring the delivery of excellence in Risk Management. 

What you’ll be leading on  

  • Assisting the robust assessment and management of risks, issues and opportunities, providing advice and recommendations to Programme and Project Managers on risk forecasting and mitigation. 
  • Embedding regular, consistent, project risk reporting into the Region, running risk management workshops and providing recommendations to senior management. 
  • You would be a key member of the risk community, working in a matrix team arrangement, engaging with and influencing our supply chain. 
  • Working closely with the Head of Risk & Change Management and / or PMO Director and other stakeholders as appropriate. You will keep key stakeholders informed of changes to the risk and opportunity register on a monthly basis, escalating as required.  
  • Developing and managing your Continuous Professional Development to keep technical knowledge and skills and awareness of industry best practices up to date. 

To be Successful  

  • Experience of embedding risk management processes, tools and / or systems within a project environment. 
  • Ability to understand and interpret risk management data. 
  • Ability to forge and leverage excellent relationships at all levels, from project team members up to director. 
  • Experience of training or coaching others to develop their knowledge and skills. 
  • Experience of working with and influencing suppliers and / or external parties.
