Here at Serco, we are looking for a Retail Catering Supervisor to join our team at University Hospital Southampton. The Retail Catering Department is responsible for meal services and hospitality services within the hospital. It provides catering for a breakfast, lunch, and supper service 365/6 days per year. It offers a staff and visitor restaurant as well as a coffee shop and a variety of vending and hospitality options during contracted hours.

 

The Retail Catering Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating an efficient catering team to maintain a clean, safe working environment adhering to health and safety working practices and good hygiene regulations and to assist in the delivery of all catering services to patients, staff, and visitors within the hospital.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Compliance with Health & Safety Regulations and HACCP requirements.
  • Ensure service critical tasks are completed on time daily.
  • Supervision, allocation, direction, and monitoring of catering assistants.
  • Arranging duty rotas, annual leave, and sickness cover.
  • Development of departmental procedures and protocols.
  • Compile and maintain work schedules.
  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures to provide an efficient and effective service.
  • Report faults and hazards.
  • Ensure goods are stored correctly and stock is used on a rotational basis.
  • Participate in recruitment, training, absence management and personal development of Catering Assistants.
  • Reconciling of cash taking from Vending, Coffee Shop and Restaurant in accordance with departmental procedures.

 

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Previous experience of supervising other staff, monitoring work standards and team working is essential.
  • Institute of Leadership and Management, Level 2 (ILM) is desirable.
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Good knowledge of working with chemicals for cleaning / COSSH awareness.
  • Previous large scale catering experience.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
