A global healthcare manufacturer are on market for two engineers to join their R&D department, within a newly formed team. Both of these roles are delivering within a leading and strategic capacity.

You will have a solid background in development of new products within the medical device or combination product industry. This is inclusive of the process and product development, designed within the design control framework.

Senior Development Engineer

This position is responsible to deliver and implement designated projects, incorporating the underlying science, technological support and manufacturing process that fulfil the needs of the project and therefore the business.

Define the overall strategy for designing and developing products, developing manufacturing processes and ensure this strategy is reviewed and agreed within the NPD team, and with any manufacturing or third parties involved in the project.

Develop an understanding of customer needs for a specific new product opportunity in order to generate product performance specifications, and apply knowledge of materials and technologies to generate and evaluate potential technical solutions.

Product Design Lead

Reporting to the NPD Engineering & Research Director, the Product Design Lead will have experience of the fundamentals of electrical, mechanical, software and systems engineering which enables them to take a multi-disciplinary approach to product design. This role requires both leadership of internal technical teams and also engagement with experts in the industry-leading development companies we partner with, as well as medical professionals and entrepreneurs. The Product Design Lead interprets the needs of our users and guides the direction our solutions take.

In this role you will have responsibility for 1) providing guidance and direction to project teams on the design and implementation of overall system architectures, 2) assisting the team in bringing together component sub-systems into a whole and ensuring that those sub-systems function together on complex electro-mechanical medical devices, 3) serving as an authority on system engineering approaches to designing and developing complex medical devices, and 4) creating value for Smith & Nephew shareholders and customers through the creation of technologies, products or processes that provide real benefit to our customers and patients.

Basic salary from £40-70k, plus excellent benefits and car allowance for the lead role.
