Serco Maritime Services deliver maritime support packages tailored to our customers' needs all delivered within a national accreditation framework. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour workboats to oceangoing support vessels, we provide world class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad. 


Our vessels provide a range of support, which include for example: dive support, military training, submarine rescue exercises, target/test equipment deployment/recovery and passenger transfers. 


We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer to operate and ensure correct maintenance and repair of the vessel's auxiliary machinery, ship's systems, and equipment in a safe, effective and economic manner. The Senior Engineer will have overall responsibility for the operational state and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard the vessel allocated.




As part of this you'll


  • The operation maintenance, performance, availability, security, custody and safety of all equipment and systems in his charge
  • The custody of drawings and publications associated with the equipment and systems in his charge, and of ships machinery spares and stores appropriate to his department
  • The compilation of records, reports and returns.
  •  for standards of fire prevention and fire fighting onboard vessels
  • Provide all necessary written procedures for the Engineering Department aboard, as required by the Quality System or the ISM Code as appropriate.
  • Demand stores, fuel, and spare gear as necessary.
  • To act as the Ship's Safety and Environmental Officer.
  • To mentor junior engineers
  • To be responsible for maintenance on more than one vessel.
  • To operate winches while on towing tasks.




What you'll need to do the job


  • Certificate of Competency issued under reg, lll/3 of the STCW 95 code Chief Engineer Certificates 9000kw (Tug)
  • Leadership and developing people.

  • Basic Sea Survival and CPSC Certificates
  • ENG1 Medical
  • Basic Management
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Manual handling
  • Managing customers and suppliers
  • ISM Code



This position requires applicant live locally and to be able to commute within 2 hours of Portsmouth Naval Base. The

 Position will also require applicant to be available to provide engineer absence cover within the Serco fleet of vessels which may include day work or rotational crews.
