Here at Serco, we are seeking an experienced Senior Fire Safety Manager join our team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of fire safety within our organisation, ensuring compliance, best practice and a culture of safety excellence.

 

As the Senior Fire Safety Manager at Serco, you will play a pivotal role in setting the standard for fire safety management and driving excellence across our diverse portfolio of contracts and premises. This is a newly created role, and we are looking for a subject matter expert who can provide leadership, management and coordination of fire safety activities. Your primary focus will be on influencing and engaging senior stakeholders while advising and supporting the development, implementation and strategy of our Fire Safety policies and procedures.

 


As part of this you'll:

 

  • Provide proactive expert fire safety advice to the leadership team and the wider business
  • Create a Divisional Fire Safety Policy and procedures that align with industry standards
  • Support the growth of knowledge and competence within the organisation, including the creation of processes, procedures, report templates, and upskilling of existing fire risk assessors
  • Manage the recruitment and training of Fire Risk Assessors from internal teams in collaboration with our training providers
  • Offer support, guidance and mentoring to internal fire risk assessors to enhance their professional development
  • Maintain a register of fire risk assessments for all owned or shared buildings
  • Ensure accurate records of fire risk assessments and agreed actions are maintained to maintain accountability
  • Ensure compliance with all current legislation regarding fire safety, including working with Appointed Persons
  • Assist in the writing of the Safety Case required under the Building Safety Act 2022
  • Support the business in managing its Fire Safety compliance requirements and system/process management in line with British Standard BS9997:2019
  • Report regularly (monthly/quarterly) on fire safety performance to the leadership team

 

 


What you'll need to do the role:
 

  • Recognised Fire Safety and Fire Risk Assessment qualification (Level 4 Diploma or equivalent)
  • Registered Fire Risk Assessor (IFE/IFSM/IPFO/FRACS or equivalent approved body) or demonstrable competencies to achieve such registration
  • Minimum of five years' experience in Fire Safety roles
  • Experience in developing fire safety processes and procedures, delivering training, and providing mentoring
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with all levels of management
  • Experience in influencing changes in Fire, Health and Safety culture and behaviour
  • Ability to produce accurate, concise reports
  • Basic managerial experience is preferred but not essential
  • Experience in carrying out fire risk assessments in high-risk, complex and historical buildings
  • Understanding and application of As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) principles in fire risk assessments
  • Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Regulation 38, along with relevant guidance documents like British Standard BS9997:2019
  • Strong interpersonal skills, understanding of matrixed management and adaptability to a changing professional landscape
