Senior Forensic Psychologist- HMP Doncaster

Permanent - Full Time (40 hours)

£56,292.83 per annum, Plus Serco Benefits

 

Here at Serco we're looking for a Senior Forensic Psychologist to join us at HMP Doncaster, a category B local remand and resettlement prison situated in South Yorkshire, housing a male population of up to 1145 individuals, approximately 240 of whom are young adults aged 18-25.

 

This post will suit someone who has a strong interest in supporting trainees in working alongside prisoners who present with a range of complex needs, including mental illness, personality disorders, cognitive deficits, self-harming behaviours and significant offending histories. This is also an exciting opportunity that offers autonomy and flexibility to a motivated individual, who can contribute to the continued shaping and direction of the psychological service we provide here at HMP Doncaster. The successful post holder must be able to influence and bring in new ideas around what can benefit the services we provide, and how we contribute to the prison as a whole.

 

 

The individual will be a positive promoter of rehabilitative culture, working effectively and supportively within teams, inspiring and promoting effective change to successfully deliver on the following accountabilities:

 

  • To help develop a Rehabilitative Culture
  • To work alongside the Head of Psychological Services and Operational Lead to implement the Young Adult Strategy.
  • Staff training and development
  • To work collaboratively with other agencies across the prison.
  • To identify risk, need, treatment and progression for prisoners with complex needs, particularly linked with violence and self-harm.
  • To support the provision of specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to prisoners' formulation and treatment plan.
  • Provide supervision to Forensic Psychologists in Training in accordance with the British Psychological Society's code of conduct and code of ethics.
  • Ensure each Forensic Psychologist in Training under your supervision carries out their duties in accordance with job descriptions and specifications, providing support and managerial guidance for people to achieve their best potential.
  • Through the supervision of others, to contribute to the provision of specialist psychological assessments, for determinate and indeterminate sentenced prisoners who are referred to the team.
  • Comply with appropriate training requirements within the establishment and also maintain own Continued Professional Development (CPD) and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). 

 

What you'll need to do the role

 

 

First and foremost, you will have Chartered status with the British Psychological Society and Registered as a Forensic Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council and be on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAAPS) with the BPS.

 

You will possess good awareness and knowledge of the Offender Personality Disorder pathway and the experience and ability to make good clinical formulations of offenders with complex needs. You will have experience in the completion of parole reports and carrying out assessments such as WAIS-IV, HCR-20, PCL-R, IPDE and SARA, to support Trainees in their practice. You'll also be able to work in a multi-disciplinary way and bring a creative and collaborative approach to your work with your team and with the prisoners.
