£45,000 - £55,000 per annum plus benefits

 

Serco Defence are recruiting for a Senior Project & Systems Engineer to work as a key member of our dedicated team at RAF Fylingdales. As our Senior Project & Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the quality of the output of the System Engineering Department in compliance with ISO 9001:2008 procedures and military standards. You will be responsible for the verification and testing of changes to the operational mission, analysis, and reporting of radar events, UKSP, supporting RAF mission training and providing technical support as required by the RAF, and other outside agencies.

 

This role covers three key areas - Systems Engineering, Project Management, and Business Development. The SSPAR comprises multiple systems and as part of the systems engineering team, you will provide support to each area, understanding the interaction of each system, monitor system performance and provide support and expertise. As part of the project management team, you will contribute to the full lifecycle management for the SSPAR infrastructure, identifying obsolescence issues, investigating solutions, preparing business cases, and managing delivery of replacements. You will also support the business development function to promote growth both at Fylingdales and within the space sector.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Prepare Operational Test (OT&E) plans and follow-on reports for updates to the Operational software on behalf of the RAF and provide technical assistance throughout the periods of RAF conducted tests.
  • Prepare and conduct technical verification of updates to the Operational and Support software in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 standard.
  • Provide technical assistance to Operational crews.
  • Prepare and verify RAF training scenarios.
  • Conduct investigations into reported anomalies in system performance and produce technical reports with details of findings and recommendations.
  • Provide technical support for meetings and conferences as required.
  • Monitor the target detection, tracking, discrimination, and capabilities of the radar system.

 

What you'll need to do the role: 

We are looking for someone with a bachelor's degree (BSc, BEng, or BA) or commensurate experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. You will need to be engaging, reliable, determined, and hardworking, and have an interest in the engineering industry. Successful applicants must be self-motivated to constantly learn and develop new skills whilst having a flexible attitude towards work.

 

It is required that you can read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. You will be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals and effectively present information formally.

 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of written and spoken English, and must be able to apply advanced mathematical concepts, including coordinate transformations, vector and matrix theory, and orbital mechanisms. You must be able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

You will need to be PC literate, and be conversant with computer code such as Microsoft Office macros and Visual Basic to UNIX scripts C++ and FORTRAN and proficient in utilizing at least one computer language. You will be able to carry out verification tests, and system management and have familiarity with Operating Systems and use of software tools.

 

Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must be able to pass SC clearance, which includes a criminal records check. Additionally, as the role is related to UK Defence, only UK nationals can be considered for the role as directed by the MOD.
