About the role

As a Senior Solution Architect, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering IT solutions that support Serco's business objectives across projects and bids. Collaborating with both business and IT stakeholders, you'll work to understand complex business requirements, identify gaps in existing capabilities, and define innovative, practical solutions aligned with Serco's architectural principles and IT strategy.

You will be instrumental in ensuring solutions are both fit for purpose and commercially viable—balancing technical feasibility with business impact. This includes designing IT solutions that meet project needs, maintaining scope integrity, and contributing to the success and profitability of the business or bid.

To be successful in this role, you'll combine deep expertise in at least one specialist IT area with broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies. Your ability to communicate clearly with clients and internal stakeholders will be essential in driving solution design and ensuring alignment across business and technology teams.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with IT Project Managers, business stakeholders, and bid teams to understand requirements and design effective, commercially viable IT solutions.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality solution and service designs that align with business needs, architectural standards, and strategic roadmaps.
  • Provide architectural guidance and leadership throughout project delivery, ensuring solutions are implemented in line with approved designs.
  • Work with Enterprise Architects, Technical Leads, and delivery teams to ensure cross-functional alignment and technical coherence.
  • Support governance processes by contributing to solution reviews and ensuring compliance with Serco's architecture and design standards.
  • Review supplier proposals to ensure quality, feasibility, and alignment with Serco's technology strategy and service models.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to support understanding and decision-making.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in at least one core IT discipline such as CRM, case management, telephony, Azure, SaaS, Dynamics, cloud technologies, RPA/AI, or data analytics.
  • Strong background in translating business requirements into practical IT solutions, ideally within government or outsourced service environments.
  • Solid understanding of modern IT infrastructure and cloud-based technologies, underpinned by a degree in an IT-related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to design and communicate clear, logical solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and accessible way.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, manage time effectively, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative and relationship-focused, with the ability to influence and build trust with both business and IT stakeholders.
  • Experience of cycle hire schemes and/or asset management is highly desirable. Must be willing to undergo BPSS security clearance; SC may also be required
