Full Time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)  

£33,800 per annum plus benefits (plus £3000 AP duties once appointed + £2340 on call) 
 

Here at Serco, we're looking for a Senior Technician to join us at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. The Senior Technician will work closely with the Site Engineer and will be responsible for ensuring the compliance with all relevant technical, statutory and safety standards and procedures as well as reviewing reports from contractors following site visits, services, or inspections.

 

The post holder will provide technical support and information to colleagues and senior managers and contribute to the development of the Hard FM strategy and management of new works, improvement, and refurbishment projects. The post holder will participate in a management on call rota.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertake surveys of the facility and prepare or amend maintenance programmes, advise of budgetary implications and report on areas of non-compliance with statutory and mandatory standards.
  • Manage the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a range of complex mechanical and electrical engineering services.
  • Manage orders and supply of goods, services, and contractors to ensure cost effective and efficient delivery of service.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of policies and procedures for the Hard FM Service such as the Permit to Work System and Emergency Procedures in line with Serco SMS and relevant SHTM's.
  • Provide specialist knowledge and undertake Authorised Person (AP) duties and assist in the implementation of all relevant guidance in this regard for all disciplines within their competency e.g., AP duties HV/LV, boilers & pressure vessels and confined spaces, Medical Gases, and other complex critical engineering systems such as standby generators, water systems, ventilation and air conditioning, sterilisers, goods and passenger lifts and controls and building management systems (BMS).
  • Manage Hard FM maintenance personnel in the operation and control of engineering planned preventative maintenance schemes to ensure assets are maintained to the requirements of the contract and in accordance with good practice.

 

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Educated to a degree level, however a relevant professional qualification HNC or HND in either mechanical or electrical engineering with appropriate endorsements will be suitable for this role.
  • Completion of a City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent in engineering, mechanical or electrical apprenticeship.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and expertise across a wide range of techniques and processes relevant to hospital engineering.
  • Previous experience of direct line management of staff, and an understanding of customer care and experience of managing client relationships.
  • Previous experience working within a hospital or healthcare environment is desirable, however consideration will be given to applicants with adaptable skills and experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • PC literate and knowledge of using CAFM systems and general IT skills.
  • Self-motivated and ability to motivate and develop a team.
