Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Solution Architect to join the Design, Integration and Test (DIT) team based at our site in Waterlooville. Serco's DIT team is part of the company's technology capability, providing high integrity service and system solutions, through-life support and technical consultancy. 


The Solution Architect will take responsibility for the design and development of technology and IT based systems and services, whilst also undertaking activities in both the pre-contract bidding and post-contract operational phases.


Task will include but not necessarily be limited to:


  • Product and or service safety analysis, product compliance and regulatory compliance validation, including applying CE Marking
  • Evaluation of alternative Systems Engineering approaches to a potential customer requirement, offering analysis and argument which support pursuance of a certain outcome
  • The design and development of technology-based systems and service solutions
  • Producing program documentation to support compliance
  • Organising and chairing design reviews to manage the design of deliverables
  • Providing leadership, technical direction and motivation to the project engineering team
  • Helping to monitor project financial status
  • Reporting the status of projects' technical risks, including the provision of proposed risk mitigation action
  • Preparing and submitting technical reports as required
  • Contributing to the pursuit of other related opportunities for business development



What you'll need to do the role  is a mix of the following capabilities:


  • Hold full SC clearance or the ability to obtain this for the position
  • Qualified to HND/Degree level or equivalent with 5 years' experience
  • An experienced systems & service design engineer with a track record of delivering technology solutions within a leading-edge technical environment
  • Experience of the Systems Engineering Lifecycle including requirements management, design and support
  • Experience of IT, analogue, digital, RF, software design and integration, service system solution design (should be a subject matter expert in at least one of these)
  • Knowledge of systems architecture tools and techniques
  • Knowledge WRT CE marking
  • Detailed knowledge of IT, hardware and software development engineering lifecycle including PDR, CDR, FAT SAT and design sign-off utilising formal compliance traceability methodologies
  • Communication skills at all levels within the organisation
  • Relationship building - building and maintaining productive relationships across all stakeholders
  • Leadership - shapes the efforts of the technical team towards delivering innovative and compliant technical solutions
  • Some experience with model-based systems engineering
  • Ideally a member of a recognised professional institution, a chartered engineer, or considering working towards chartership
