Serco Defence are recruiting for a Spacetrack Analyst to work as a key member of a dedicated operations and maintenance team. This is a permanent position based at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, offering employment in a unique engineering environment which may require occasional travel for training and operational support at other Serco sites.
The position of Spacetrack Analyst based at RAF Fylingdales will involve supporting the system engineering team, spacetrack team leader, and 24/7 spacetrack team in their efficient delivery of orbital analysis expertise, operational tasks and radar performance analysis. The role will primarily support the US and UK space surveillance mission, which will require the successful candidate to liaise and collaborate with Serco and RAF colleagues at all levels.
The successful candidate will utilise existing or developed knowledge of orbital mechanics; the RAF Fylingdales missions; the US space surveillance network; and all associated directives, procedures, and systems.
Key duties will require the Spacetrack Analyst to deliver orbital mechanics and on-the-job training to the RAF and Serco operational team. The candidate will, following appropriate training, also be proficient in operating the radar mission computer system and representing the company and department during high profile industry, public and military visits.
The Spacetrack Analyst will work core hours of 08:00-16:00 Monday - Friday and may require alteration of hours to suit missions/space events, overtime is available through shift cover. A level of pre-agreed flexible working is available in this role.
What you'll need to do the role:
We are looking for someone with a technical background who is engaging, cooperative and innovative, and has an interest in defence and space. Successful applicants must be self-motivated to constantly learn and develop new skills in our dynamic working environment, occasionally coordinating with high-ranking officers, foreign agencies and other contractors at high technical levels.
Due to the complexity of this role and level of technical understanding required, a minimum of A Level or level 3 in a relevant field such as mathematics, physics or computer science, or equivalent training and experience is essential.
Site familiarisation and on-the-job training will be provided at RAF Fylingdales. Required technical training will be also conducted at RAF Fylingdales, but will be reliant on the employed individual possessing fundamental knowledge and capability in engineering, mathematics and science.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of written and spoken English.
Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must be able to pass SC clearance, which includes a criminal records check. Additionally, as the role is related to UK Defence, only UK nationals can be considered for the role as directed by the MOD.
