At Serco, we provide operations and maintenance support to the US Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) and Telemetry and Command Station (TCS) at Oakhanger, Hampshire. We are currently recruiting a Support Services Manager to join our team in Bordon who will be responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery and site activities, ensuring the customer and site stakeholders are kept informed and supported where necessary.

 

As our Support Services Manager, you will provide line management support to a team of approx. 30 employees, with approx. 4 direct reports. You will ensure appropriate corporate governance is in place to comply with assurance and other legal requirements as well as ensuring that contract requirements are effectively delivered across TCS. You will lead the operational service delivery of contract compliance activities on the TCS site, meeting KPI targets, quality compliance, safety, audits, continuous improvements, and other contractual obligations.

 

You will have daily responsible for the performance of multiple departments including Communication & IT, Facilities, Logistics, Purchasing, Maintenance, Security and Administration functions.

 

Main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Support the Contract Manager in the day-to-day activities and deputise where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with QHSE, Fire, HR, and Security Policies.
  • Support Contract Manager in the growth activities including SME inputs to Contract Change Requests, new business opportunities and or rebid activities.
  • Ensure all budgetary tasks are met or exceeded including budgetary task ownership.
  • Ensure overall performance and training activities are maintained within contractual targets.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the USAF and other agencies including governmental, at senior levels as required.
  • Accountable for internal communications and ensure that management information is disseminated.
  • Support Contract Manager in the delivery and implementation of the site engagement strategy for continuous improvement.
  • Line management responsibilities including recruitment and selection, induction, performance management, managing absence and grievances, and recognition.
     

What you'll need to do the job:

  • Previous management experience in a multi-faceted department environment.
  • Management qualification and or proven line/department management/supervisory experience.
  • Sound knowledge of ground station and or satellite communication operations and principles.
  • Forward-thinker that finds innovative ideas to enhance business results.
  • Robust understanding of financial context and ability to manage budgetary plans.
  • Commercial awareness and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Experience of working in partnership in military functions / sub-contracted military functions is desirable.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Requirement for foreign travel.
