Serco have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Systems Administrator to join our team based at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Swindon. Serco at the Defence Academy provides Facilities Management across all aspects of the site including Estates, Logistics, various Supporting Services, together with Cleaning, Catering and Waste Management through ESS.

 

Working as part of the IT Operations Department, the Systems Administrator will be primarily responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. The post holder will participate in technical research and development, to enable continuing innovation, and all other areas within the infrastructure teams' areas of responsibility.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Resolve any security incidents, working closely with the IT Operations team.
  • Establish cyber security best practices and procedures, working closely with stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate security standards for infrastructure, network, systems are adhered to.
  • Improvement of Infrastructure services, processes, and policies.
  • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot network and server infrastructure related to the delivery of Defence Academy services. This includes but is not limited to: M365, Anti-Virus; Authentication; Backup; Database; E-Mail; File; Print; Virtualisation.
  • Perform scheduled tasks as detailed in maintenance plans.
  • Configure and maintain third party software i.e., security, monitoring, and configuration.
  • Provision of support to offsite units.
  • Accurately maintain all relevant documentation.

 

What you need to do the job:

  • Previous experience working in a cyber security related position.
  • Microsoft qualifications (MCSE) or a related degree or relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of the following is highly desirable:
    • Microsoft O365, M365 and associated services
    • Azure AD, Exchange, SharePoint, and OneDrive
    • Azure environment and services
    • Windows Server 2019, Hyper-V, DNS, DHCP, SSH, failover clustering, security hardening, patching.
  • Ability to prioritise and execute tasks to exacting standards whilst working to tight deadlines.
  • An understanding of ITIL would be desirable, particuarly IT service management. 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to research problems and identify solutions.
  • Be able to interpret technical language and have an aptitude to learn and operate multiple monitoring applications and tools.
  • Be a team player with the ability to build strong working relationships.
