Serco have an exciting opportunity for an Team Leader to join the team at the Defence Academy based in Shrivenham. The Headquarters J6 Information Services team is responsible for strategy and governance of Information Systems and Services within the Defence Academy. The Team Leader will be responsible for the delivery of Information Hub (iHub) services across the Defence Academy. The role has Management/Line Management responsibility for the iHub and the staff members within, including the department operation, recruitment of staff, allocation of work to the team and monitoring of absence, performance, well-being and learning and development requirements (to include coaching and mentoring).


The role is customer embedded with workload and direction provided by our customer. The individual must therefore be able to balance customer delivery direction with Serco delivery standards whilst maintaining a high performing team.


Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.


Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Act as subject matter expert on a wide range of information systems and services, including hardware and software solutions, IS exploitation and ways of working.
  • Provide governance and oversight of Defence Academy Microsoft 365 collaborative services.
  • Actively contribute to and support the activities and outputs of the HQ J6 IS team in an ever-changing environment.
  • Responsible for management and day to day operations of the iHub.
  • Supervision and coordination of the iHub team.
  • Conduct briefings, presentations, and training sessions to improve awareness and develop end user skills in IM, IT and other related areas.
  • Prepare reports and returns as required to demonstrate compliance with MOD policy.
  • Manage and support hardware and software under the control of headquarters J6 Information Services.


What you'll need to do the role:

  • A high level of IT literacy, including hardware, software, systems and ways of working.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, using a variety of communication methods (spoken, written, behaviour).
  • Confident and assertive.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Ability to proactively manage workload and cope under pressure, with conflicting demands of customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Previous experience in Microsoft Office 365 and the creation and management of SharePoint sites and MS Teams is essential.
  • Previous experience in line management of staff.
  • Ability to achieve Security Clearance at SC level is required.


The Defence Academy sits within a beautiful and secure site which hosts 2 lakes and is surrounded by acres of scenic woodland.
