Full Time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

£24,500 per annum plus benefits


Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Portering Team Leader to join the team at the Defence Academy based in Shrivenham. This role will line manage, supervise, and coordinate the tasking and activities of the Serco Porterage Team by providing direct porterage and logistical support to the DACI and JSCSC contracts at the Defence Academy. The Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring the department operates efficiently, effectively, and safely by working within both Serco and MOD directed regulations and guidelines.


Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and most of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition, and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.


Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Day to day management and tasking of the portering team to requested tasks.
  • Line manager duties and responsibilities for the porters to include HR responsibilities.
  • Ensure staff always operate within Health and Safety guidelines and that all tools, equipment, and vehicles are fit for purpose.
  • Coordination of the reconfiguration or set up of meeting, training, or other rooms.
  • Task and monitor collection/delivery of course material from Reprographics Department.
  • Ensure that all stores and equipment, including tentage are maintained, cleaned, stores and accounted for correctly.
  • Provide direct support to other areas within the Logistics Department as required.
  • Responsible for monthly auditable and end of month returns.


What you'll need to do the job

  • Full UK Category B Driving Licence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work well unsupervised.
  • Experience of working within a logistical, warehousing or porterage environment.
  • Self-motivated and ability to drive a team.
  • This is a physical role and the post holder will be required to do manual handling and may be on their feet for the majority of the day. 
  • IT proficient - understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to achieve SC Clearance prior to appointment.
