What is the purpose of the role?
You will be working as part of the Thermal Hydrolysis team in a very "hands-on" role. As the THP Technician, reporting to the Site Performance Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out the operation and front line maintenance functions on the sludge treatment process, whilst also working on the effluent stream to ensure and support smooth running and compliance. You will gather data and operate the plant in order to achieve and maintain statutory and regulatory compliance. The role is based in a small team and to ensure the role is covered 24 hours a day 365 days a year, you will be required to work on a standby rota.
What makes this role unique?
This is an exciting opportunity to operate and carry out front line maintenance on a challenging but critical Thermal Hydrolysis Plant (THP) and associated sludge treatment plant. This plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The plant includes THP, combined heat and power (CHP) units, steam boilers and associated plant, sludge dewatering plant, sludge digestion and biogas production. Furthermore, you will be operating a double filtration effluent stream, which is one of the largest filter sites within Thames Water.
What will this role involve?
This role is based at Chertsey STW working on the effluent stream and associated Thermal Hydrolysis Sludge Treatment Plant. Primarily the role will involve:
The operation of power generation plant and equipment.
Sampling, testing and basic maintenance and fault-finding of the plant and equipment.
The monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance is met.
Undertaking safety and security checks and housekeeping.
Working closely as a team to ensure the effluent stream and THP work in conjunction.
Taking personal responsibility for health and safety of self and colleagues.
What are we looking for?
Do you have experience of working in a process operation or a power generation environment with boilers and energy generation? Do you have knowledge of the process industry plant such as pumps, gearboxes, centrifuges? Can you demonstrate flexibility, initiative, a proactive ability and willingness to learn? If so, this may be the ideal role for you. We are seeking an engaged individual with NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) who has previous experience of working in waste treatment processes, sludge treatment or a power generation environment. As well as this, you must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry and Boiler Operation Accreditation. You must have basic literacy and numeracy skills, some computer data input or enquiry experience is desirable, but not essential. A full current driving license is essential for this role.

This role is based at Chertsey Sewage Treatment Works; and is offering a salary from £26,180 depending on skills, qualifications and experience.
