What is the purpose of the role?
Working as part of a small team you will be required to carry out routine operations and basic process maintenance of our main trunk sewer network. Based at Greenwich SPS (South London), you will be required to cover an area encompassing most of South London. This is a safety-focused role, and will require you to work closely with your team members. Please note, the normal working hours are 6:30am - 3:45pm; with 1 week out of 5 on night shift from 9:00pm - 5:30am (for which you will receive additional payment).
What makes this role unique?
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a great team working in London's historic network of sewers, which date back to the Victorian times. Your job will be to ensure that they are maintained effectively to meet regulatory requirements.
What will this role involve?
This role involves:
Working in confined spaces, working at heights and lifting heavy loads.
Maintenance of the sewer network and associated assets.
Operation of plant and equipment.
Cleaning, basic mechanical maintenance and fault-finding.
Surveys and safety cover for contractors.
Driving 7.5t vehicle.
What are we looking for?
A large percentage of your work will involve planned, emergency and defect maintenance of the trunk sewer network. Previous experience in this area would therefore be advantageous, as would basic mechanical skills/qualifications. Ideally you should have an understanding of the sewage and pumping process and be trained to work in confined spaces (CP2), although this is not essential as training will be given if required. The duties also involve the collection, recording and monitoring of data in accordance with quality procedures, so the ability to write clearly and concisely is essential. This is a manual role, therefore it is essential that you are physically fit and prepared to work in a challenging environment on a daily basis. You must have a proactive approach to your work and demonstrate that you can work positively and effectively within a team environment. You will need to be a keen and motivated team member, able to demonstrate initiative and a flexible approach to work. A valid UK driving licence is required.
