Role Overview:
The Linehaul Van Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of goods between distribution centres, warehouses, and customer locations. This role requires a focus on safety, adherence to regulations, and exceptional time management skills to meet delivery schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a van or light commercial vehicle to transport goods along designated linehaul routes.
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring proper handling and securing of items to prevent damage.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and records using company systems and tools.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and report any delays, incidents, or mechanical issues promptly.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with all customers (Internal/External)
- Assist with route planning to optimize efficiency and meet delivery deadlines.
Rates of pay:
- Standard - £15.65
- Night rate (1900:0700) - £21.84
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial driving, preferably in a linehaul or logistics setting.
- Familiarity with GPS and routing technology.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to lift and handle packages safely - Manual handling Skills
- Knowledge of transportation safety standards and regulations.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
- Driving for extended periods across various road and weather conditions.
- Regular interaction with warehouse staff
- Split Shifts / Night work - 17:30-21:40 and 05:20-09:30 Overnight stop outs.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- On-time delivery rate.
- Compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Customer satisfaction ratings.
- Vehicle condition and maintenance adherence.
