Monday to Friday (plus occassional weekend and evening overtime) 

Circa £29,000 per annum plus benefits


Here at Serco, we are currently looking to recruit a Vehicle Technician to join our team at RAF Alconbury. The station is home to the 423rd Air Base Group and operates one of Europe's largest military switchboards and processes approximately a third of all U.S. military communications in Europe. RAF Molesworth is based in Huntingdon and is a Royal Air Force station which is currently held by United States Air Force.


Joining our friendly team as a Vechical Technician you'll be required to repair, maintain, inspect and fault find electrical and hydraulic faults along with general maintenance/service and complete diagnostic tests using manual tools and technological devices. This role is a fantastic opportunity for mechanics and technicians and involves working on various U.S Military vehicles, as well as Fire Engines and high-spec Police vehicles.


Main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Repair and maintain a varied rang of equipment (including tail lifts, generators etc...)
  • Ensure that all repairs are carried out in accordance with Air Force Instructions and the Ministry of Transport Regulations.
  • Ensuring vehicles are maintained in accordance with the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency.
  • Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles presented.
  • Identify vehicle faults and repairs.
  • Ensure all brake tests are completed as required.
  • Conduct vehicle test drives after repairs have been completed to verify the vehicle is roadworthy.
  • You will be expected to be part of the emergency call out roster which is approximately 1 week in 3.


What you'll need to do the role:

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experienced and qualified Mechanical - either with Light or HGV Mechanic experience, or willing to undertake additional training. 
  • NVQ Level 3 Maintenance Qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous diagnostic experience.
  • Knowledge and undersanding of tyre changing and balancing.
  • We are always keen to hear from candidates from the Armed Forces with mechanical backgrounds, or individuals currently working as car/HGV mechanics.
  • Experience of maintaining large fleets.
  • Experience of proactively engaging with customers to improve relationships for the longterm and continue to drive value.
