Job description

As an Apprentice Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll play an active part in supporting the technology that underpins our services. From day one, you’ll be immersed in real infrastructure work, developing your skills through hands-on experience and structured learning. You’ll work alongside supportive colleagues in the Transformation & Technology directorate, gaining insight into how we maintain and improve our systems while learning a blend of traditional, agile and digital practices. As an Apprentice Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

Develop your skills and capability through ongoing training and learning opportunities provided as part of your apprenticeship.
Work as part of a team to deliver high-quality IT service support to users, meeting agreed Service Level Agreements.
Support the delivery of new software and infrastructure by collaborating with technical teams.
Troubleshoot IT software and hardware issues through effective analysis, problem-solving and diagnosis.
Contribute to forward-planning activities, aligning your own workload with team delivery timescales.
Ensure that all necessary documentation is accurate, complete and kept up to date.
Share knowledge openly with colleagues within your team and across the wider organisation.

Person specification

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following throughout the recruitment process.

Essential Technical Criteria

5 GCSE’s Grade 4 or Grade C and above including Maths, English and ICT or a Science or equivalent.

Essential Experience Criteria

An understanding of the Apprenticeship appropriate standards and commitment to completing the apprenticeship
Competent user of computer software packages including knowledge of MS Office and email
Ability to think ahead, anticipate problems and use problem solving skills
Able to work as part of a team or group to achieve a team goal or task
Effective and easy to understand communication skills (written and verbal), in a variety of situations
Motivation for learning, ability to recognise own learning needs and identify how to achieve them
Ability to be practical, organise own work and prioritise tasks

Desirable Experience Criteria 

An understanding of good customer service
Uses initiative and works with limited supervision but seeks advice when appropriate
