About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Maintenance Manager to take ownership of the maintenance, safety, compliance and overall presentation of a well-established care home in Reading.
This is not a traditional handyman position. We are looking for a proactive facilities professional who can independently manage building maintenance, coordinate contractors, oversee statutory checks, and ensure the home remains fully operational, safe and compliant for residents, visitors and staff.
The successful candidate will bring strong practical maintenance expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Building & Facilities Maintenance
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the home
- Complete repairs to doors, locks, windows, furniture and fixtures
- Undertake painting, decorating and general building maintenance
- Perform basic carpentry and joinery repairs
- Assemble, install and maintain furniture and equipment
Electrical & Plumbing Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve first-line electrical faults
- Replace switches, sockets, light fittings, fuses and lamp holders
- Maintain call bell systems and site equipment
- Carry out minor plumbing repairs including taps, toilets, leaks and pipework
- Escalate specialist works to approved contractors when required
Equipment & Care Home Asset Maintenance
- Maintain hospital beds, hoists, call systems and site equipment
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and safety checks
- Troubleshoot faults and coordinate repairs with specialist providers
Compliance & Health & Safety
- Complete routine compliance inspections and record keeping
- Manage Legionella monitoring and water hygiene checks
- Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records and audit documentation
- Support fire safety, health & safety and regulatory compliance requirements
- Ensure the home remains inspection-ready at all times
Facilities Management
- Assess maintenance issues and coordinate external contractors
- Monitor completed works and maintain service standards
- Order parts, materials and maintenance supplies
- Plan and prioritise maintenance activities across the site
Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain gardens and external areas
- Carry out basic groundskeeping and seasonal maintenance
- Ensure outdoor spaces remain safe, tidy and presentable
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
✅ Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager, Facilities Technician, Facilities Coordinator, Site Manager, Care Home Maintenance Manager, Building Services Engineer or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
✅ Strong hands-on experience across:
- Building maintenance
- Basic electrical fault-finding
- Plumbing repairs
- Carpentry and joinery
- Painting and decorating
- Equipment maintenance
✅ Experience completing compliance checks, inspections and maintenance records
✅ Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
✅ Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
✅ Excellent understanding of health & safety responsibilities
Essential Requirements
- Enhanced Adult DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Proven facilities or maintenance management experience
- Experience working in regulated environments such as care homes, healthcare, education, housing, hotels or facilities management
- Full UK Right to Work

- Health & Safety qualification
- Experience maintaining care home equipment
- Full UK Driving Licence
