Forklift Driver
Location: Sudbury (DE6 5GX)
Pay Rate: £13.50 per hour
Contract Type: short term contract - possible extension
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 07:00 - 16:00
- Friday: 07:00 - 15:00
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Forklift Driver to join a busy scaffolding warehouse in Sudbury. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe movement, storage, loading, and unloading of scaffolding materials while also supporting the wider warehouse team with general operative duties.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role, combining forklift operation with hands-on warehouse work, and is looking for long-term employment with the potential to secure a permanent position.
Main Duties
- Operate a forklift truck safely and efficiently to move scaffolding materials around the warehouse and yard.
- Load and unload vehicles in line with company procedures.
- Transport scaffold tubes, fittings, boards, and other materials to designated storage areas.
- Accurately pick and prepare customer orders for dispatch.
- Assist with general operative duties, including sorting, storing, cleaning, and organising scaffolding equipment.
- Support the inspection of returned stock and report any damaged or defective items.
- Carry out basic maintenance and refurbishment of equipment using hand and power tools where required.
- Assist with stock control, stock counts, and inventory management.
- Conduct daily forklift checks and report any defects or maintenance issues.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, including the use of PPE.
- Work closely with warehouse colleagues, drivers, and management to meet operational requirements.
- Undertake any other warehouse or yard duties as required to support the business.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence (RTITB, ITSSAR, or equivalent).
- Previous forklift driving experience within a warehouse, yard, manufacturing, or construction environment.
- Ability to safely and confidently use hand tools and power tools.
- Experience carrying out general warehouse or operative duties alongside forklift work.
- Physically fit and willing to undertake manual handling duties and lift heavy materials when required.
- Reliable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Own transport is essential due to the location of the site.
Desirable:
- Experience handling long or bulky materials such as scaffolding products, steel, timber, or construction materials.
- Previous experience within a scaffolding, builders merchant, or construction-related environment.
