The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is pleased to announce the opportunity to apply for the position of Deputy Director Digital.

The CPS sits at the heart of the criminal justice system (CJS), working with partners to help keep the public safe. We prosecute criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. Our duty is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible. These offences include all types of serious crime including murder, rape, burglary, terrorism, domestic abuse and multi-million-pound fraud cases. We also work across borders to tackle cybercrime, human trafficking, and drugs smuggling, and use our powers to confiscate the proceeds of crime at home and abroad.

Job description

The Deputy Director of Digital is responsible for the quality, performance, benefits, and outcomes of digital products and services within the organisation. They manage prioritisation, risk assessment, decision making, and provide direction to digital teams in accordance with department policies and user outcomes.

As a senior digital and technology practitioner, this role sets the digital vision and strategy for the organisation driving the transformation to user-focused and future-ready products and services. The responsibilities include setting digital policy, advocating for and delivering digital initiatives, and integrating them into the organisational framework. This position requires significant expertise in digital service delivery, product management, agile methodologies, and emerging technologies and data to facilitate large-scale digital transformation.

The role involves working closely with service owners & users, commercial teams and financial teams to support all digital procurement activities. This includes leading and contributing to business requirements within tender documents, assessing suppliers and bids and supporting the end-to-end procurement process.

You will work to achieve efficiency through digital and remote working and seek ways to improve working practices and systems. The digital workplace is an always-connected environment that provides rapid access to the data, applications, and collaboration workspaces staff need to perform their roles from anywhere at any time.

You must be able to clearly demonstrate evidence of the following essential criteria that will be used to assess your application and at the interview stage:

Proven ability to set and deliver a clear digital vision and strategy that aligns with organisational priorities and delivers measurable outcomes for users. 
Deep commitment to the design of user-centred, accessible, and inclusive services, with a strong understanding of best practice standards in digital technology. 
Strong track record of championing and embedding agile, iterative, and product-based approaches in organisations used to traditional delivery methods. 
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision making. 
Demonstrated ability to build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, delivery partners and frontline staff, skilled at communicating complex digital concepts to non-technical audiences. 
Experience of building, leading, and inspiring large, diverse teams, across digital, data and technology professions including growing DDaT talent and capability. 
Strong understanding of emerging digital technologies including AI and their potential impact on users and business operations, including evidence of design and build of innovative digital products and services.
