Temporary Facilities Assistant

Are you practical, reliable, and enjoy a varied hands-on role? We are looking to recruit two Temporary Facilities Assistants to join our Facilities Team and help ensure our campus remains safe, secure, and fully operational for students, staff, and visitors.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with general maintenance experience who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in maintaining high standards across a busy educational environment.
Position Details
- Job Title: Temporary Facilities Assistant
- Location: Eastleigh
- Pay Rate: £15.29 per hour
- Contract: Temporary
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- End Date: Mid-November 2026
Working Hours
We are recruiting for one position on each of the following shifts:
- Early Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 2:00pm
- Late Shift: Monday to Friday, 2:00pm to 10:00pm
About the Role
As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the College site, helping to maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-functioning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring the College site is open, prepared, and ready for daily use.
- Assisting with securing the campus at the end of the day.
- Carrying out general maintenance tasks including:
- Basic plumbing repairs
- Building fabric repairs
- Carpentry work
- Decorating
- General maintenance duties
- Moving furniture and setting up rooms for classes, examinations, events, and functions.
- Undertaking general portage duties.
- Supporting the operational running of plant and machinery.
- Receiving and accepting goods deliveries.
- Carrying out emergency cleaning tasks when required.
- Responding to emergencies including fire, flood, accidents, or major damage incidents in line with College procedures.
- Adhering to Health & Safety policies and reporting or rectifying hazards where appropriate.
- Providing overtime cover for lettings and other operational requirements as required.
- Potentially acting as a key holder and participating in a 24-hour call-out rota.
- Attending and supporting satellite sites when required.
About You
The successful candidate will:
- Have a DBS Enhanced Clearance
- Have practical maintenance or facilities experience.
- Be reliable, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Have a flexible approach and willingness to support a wide range of duties.
- Possess good communication and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrate a commitment to health and safety.
- Be physically capable of carrying out manual handling and furniture-moving tasks.
- Be prepared to work additional hours when required.
