Job Role: Greenkeeper
Location: Antrim & Newtownabbey area
Pay Rate: £14.13- £15.06 per hour
Hours: Monday- Friday 8-4pm with 1 in 4 weekends on a rota
Your role:
Responsible for operational management of employees, vehicles, plant and equipment at the allocated area, providing a high standard playing surface on the green/s and undertaking work of a horticultural nature.
Your responsibilities:
1.Responsible for operational management of employees, vehicles, plant and equipment at the allocated area, including contractors carrying out planned work.
2.Maintain golf course, bowling greens and horticultural areas to agreed standards; including detecting / treating diseases and growth problems; regulating areas of highest usage; maintaining healthy growth including turf replacement or oversowing; marking out greens; grass cutting; administering fertilisers / spraying pesticides etc.
3.Operate and maintain tools and equipment required to carry out any of the duties pertaining to the post, ensuring daily safety checks are completed.
4. Carry out periodical checks on vehicles / machines / equipment ensuring they are maintained in good working condition, all safety guards / signs are properly maintained and displayed, records of machinery and site inspection dates are kept, and defects recorded and rectified.
5. Carry out periodical checks on the storage and use of chemicals and other compounds in accordance with recognised safety codes of practice.
6.Removal of litter and hazardous waste (e.g. animal carcasses) from shorelines, beaches and waterways, ensuring correct disposal.
7.Completion of written and computerised records (e.g. in-house systems, accidents, defects, safety checks).
8.Inspect and maintain playground areas e.g. replace damaged swings; repair fencing.
9.Implement adverse weather programme i.e. salt / flooding when required.
10.Take bookings for activities / facilities in the area (e.g. bowling / golfing tickets, bike hire, tennis courts), taking and receipting of monies where appropriate.
11.Hold keys to allocated buildings, ensuring cleanliness and security of same and public access where appropriate.
12.Undergo periodic training to improve personal and team performance.
13.In the event of inclement weather preventing normal working undertake such alternative tasks as may be allocated by management.
14.Assist with duties in Cemeteries Section as and when required.
15.Contribute to the performance of the Section to ensure key performance indicators for the Section are achieved.
16.Communicate fully with your line manager, colleagues and customers in order to enhance the service provided.
17.Ensure that you comply with the requirements of the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
18.Co-operate with the Council, its officers and staff to enable them, as far as necessary to conform and comply with any duty or requirement imposed as a result of any law which may be in force regarding health and safety.
19.To be available from time to time to carry out duties outside of normal working hours and in addition to basic contracted hours. Such additional hours to be remunerated in line with the Council's policies at that time.
20.To be available to work flexibly in other services during emergencies.
You will have:
- Full current driving licence
- Experience of working within a small team
- Experience in spraying pesticides using hand-held applicators
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations
- As the post involves significant physical and manual handling elements, the post holder must be of a satisfactory level of general fitness
