As an Interaction Designer, you’ll work in multidisciplinary teams to design accessible, user-centred digital services that meet the needs of the public and Government Design Principles. You’ll contribute to the delivery of high-quality services by creating intuitive and inclusive user journeys, achieved through collaborating with researchers, developers, and product managers.
This is a hands-on design role focused on delivery. You’ll be supported by senior designers and will have opportunities to develop your skills and grow within a strong design community of practice across government. Job description
As the Interaction Designer, you'll:
design clear, accessible, usable digital interfaces that meet user needs and follow the GOV.UK Design System
create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to communicate design ideas and test assumptions
collaborate in agile teams with product managers, user researchers, and developers to iterate services based on research, analytics, and feasibility
participate in design critiques and reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback
contribute to user research activities and use findings to inform design decisions
facilitate design workshops with teams, stakeholders, and users
champion accessibility and inclusion, ensuring designs meet standards and legal requirements
maintain and contribute to design systems, style guides, and component libraries to ensure consistency
Person specification
As the Interaction Designer, you’ll have:
experience designing digital interfaces that are clear, usable, and accessible across devices and browsers
the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and agile environments, using iterative design processes to improve services
experience designing collaboratively and engaging people through workshops or co-design activities
strong understanding of user-centred design principles and how to apply them in practice
experience using research and data to inform design decisions
proficiency in design tools for interface design and prototyping
familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and Service Manual (or similar)
awareness of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices
