We are recruiting an Interim Quality Manager to lead the Quality Management Systems at a manufacturing site in Derby. This role is offered on a temporary basis, paid £24 per hour while working through us, and plays a crucial part in maintaining ISO certification, improving performance, and strengthening governance across the site.
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will sit on the Site Leadership Team, providing hands‑on, visible leadership during a key operational period.
🧾 Key Responsibilities
🔧 Quality Management System Leadership (ISO 9001:2015)
- Lead and maintain ISO 9001:2015 certification
- Own the effectiveness and continual improvement of the Quality Management System
- Chair Management Reviews in accordance with Clause 9
- Maintain and review quality risk registers
- Ensure procedures and documentation remain current and controlled
- Govern internal audit programmes using a risk‑based approach
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are timely, robust and effective
- Maintain legal and compliance registers
- Prevent recurrence of non‑conformities through systemic corrective actions
📊 Quality Performance & Financial Impact
Accountable for delivering measurable improvements in:
- Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
- Customer complaint volume and financial impact
- Material yield percentage
- Scrap, material loss and manufacturing variance
Key activities include:
- Leading root cause investigations and validating corrective actions
- Creating financial visibility of quality losses
- Implementing SPC and process control techniques where appropriate
- Driving reduction in repeat complaints
- Presenting monthly quality performance metrics to site leadership
🛡️ Governance & Compliance
- Maintain aspect and impact assessments
- Ensure effective operational controls for significant risks
- Lead quality-related incident investigations
- Drive waste reduction and process efficiency initiatives
- Support energy and resource efficiency improvements
- Ensure zero compliance breaches or audit non‑conformities
🤝 Customer & Supplier Quality
- Lead customer quality discussions and issue resolution
- Approve PPAP submissions and process change requests
- Govern supplier quality performance and corrective actions
- Conduct risk‑based evaluation prior to any deviation approvals
🔁 Continuous Improvement
- Identify and lead quality-driven cost reduction initiatives
- Develop and maintain Control Plans and FMEAs
- Embed preventative, process capability thinking
- Drive transition from inspection-based quality control to process control
👥 Team Leadership
- Lead and develop Quality Engineers and inspection staff
- Maintain training matrices and auditor competency
- Foster accountability, ownership and engagement
- Operate as an active and influential member of the Site Leadership Team
✅ What We're Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering degree (Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical, Ceramics or similar), or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience in an ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environment
- Proven experience leading internal audits and management reviews
- Strong statistical analysis and process control knowledge
- Demonstrated problem-solving and root cause analysis capability
- Experience working with customers and suppliers on technical quality matters
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth understanding of ISO 9001:2015
- Financial awareness of scrap, yield and Cost of Poor Quality
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to analyse and present performance data clearly
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- Confident leading cross‑functional improvement activities
