Are you a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in keeping buildings safe, secure and running smoothly?

We are looking for an experienced Lead Caretaker to join a busy school environment in Swanscombe. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong maintenance, caretaking or facilities experience who enjoys variety in their day and is confident leading by example.

As the Lead Caretaker, you'll be responsible for ensuring the school premises, grounds and facilities are safe, well-maintained and compliant, while supporting the day-to-day running of the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and securing school buildings and grounds.
• Conducting routine site inspections and security patrols.
• Supervising day-to-day caretaking activities.
• Carrying out minor repairs, maintenance and redecoration works.
• Responding to reactive maintenance requests and emergency situations.
• Monitoring building systems including boilers, hot water systems and plant rooms.
• Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks.
• Managing contractors and external service providers on site.
• Performing routine checks on drains, gullies, shower heads and general site infrastructure.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and presentation across the school.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in a Caretaker, Site Supervisor, Facilities Assistant or Maintenance role.
• Broad DIY and maintenance skills including basic plumbing, carpentry and general repairs.
• Ability to identify building issues and carry out first-line repairs.
• Experience working within schools, public buildings or commercial facilities would be advantageous.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A proactive and reliable approach to work.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
