You will participate in the on-call rota providing cover 24/7/365 as an essential element of this role.
The team for this role is based in our Cardiff office, and a hybrid employment contract will be provided as the standard offering. However, remote contracts may be considered as an exception whereby commuting to the office location of your team is not reasonably practicable.

Job description

As a Lead DevOps Engineer (WebOps – Cloud Support & Automation), you will:

be responsible for release, maintenance, upgrades, automation, and service improvements, resolving ServiceNow Incident issues and finding root causes of problems.
contribute to the development of projects to improve the range and quality of digital services available to the customer and take an active part in the transformation of our services and smarter ways of working
be part of the IT Services Digital team in a time of great change and play an integral part in the way that Companies House systems are developed
be part of a huge Transformation project to align our services with our new powers under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill
support the recently migrated AWS cloud estate
have the opportunity to develop your management skills as part of your career development
coach and mentor other IT professionals
be able to network and engage with stakeholders to deliver improvements
participate in the on-call rota providing cover 24/7/365 as an essential element of this role

Person specification

We’re looking for the following experience and technical skills, which will be assessed at sift and at interview.

The successful candidate will have experience of:

Incident/Problem resolution and root cause analysis
Problem resolution via coding and scripting
Adhoc reporting and data management.
Proven experience within an IT environment (preferably in an Ops environment), and of leading a technical team
System software build and release - Automation of manual processes, including code deployment and environment provisioning.
Setting up performance monitoring / alerting / tuning for web-based services and API’s.
Coaching and supporting colleagues in non-functional requirements, ensuring availability, security, capacity, and performance for the services.
Engaging in continuous improvement activities by working collaboratively within and outside of the team.
Excellent customer focus, communication, and networking skills
Mentoring and leading less experienced members of the team

They will also have demonstrable technical experience of:

Unix/Linux in a support or development environment
DevOps and associated technologies – Continuous Delivery methods and techniques, including agile scrum experience
Supporting infrastructure in the cloud
Database querying
Any type of coding
AWS, Java, Terraform, Concourse, Ansible, Docker, JSON, SQL, GIT, Tibco iProcess, Doc1 (experience in similar technologies will be considered)
