🔧 Shift Engineer - Manufacturing Environment 🏭

🕒 Shift‑based role 4 on 4 off (covering manufacturing operations)
🔩 Are you an experienced multi‑skilled engineer looking for a hands‑on shift role in a fast‑paced manufacturing site?
We're recruiting a Shift Engineer to support manufacturing operations on site in Ilkeston. This is a key support role, working closely with Production and Engineering teams to keep plant, machinery, and site services running safely and efficiently.
When not carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), you'll be providing frontline engineering support to production shifts, diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and helping minimise downtime.
🔧 What you'll be doing:
- Providing mechanical and electrical maintenance support across plant, machinery, ancillary equipment and site services
- Diagnosing breakdowns and carrying out repairs efficiently and safely
- Completing PPM tasks and routine inspections, coordinating with Production to minimise disruption
- Supporting production during job changes, breakdown recovery and line start‑ups
- Prioritising maintenance tasks between urgent and routine activities
- Participating in engineering development and improvement projects
- Sourcing parts and materials in line with company processes
- Maintaining clear communication during shift handovers
- Supporting site safety, housekeeping standards, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assisting the Incident Controller during emergencies (Fire Marshal training encouraged)
You'll be the sole engineer on shift, building strong working relationships with production leads, quality and external suppliers as required.
✅ What we're looking for:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar engineering role within a manufacturing or process environment
- Level 3 qualification in an Electrical or Mechanical discipline
- Electrical maintenance qualification (essential)
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to plan, prioritise and work calmly under pressure
- Clear communication skills and a team‑focused approach
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to work on your own initiative
- High standards of workmanship with a strong focus on safety and food quality
