Location: Birmingham
Hours: Monday-Friday, shifts between 07:00-19:00 (8am-4pm or 11am-7pm)
We're looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy facilities engineering team responsible for maintaining a large, complex estate. You'll be delivering planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across a range of buildings, ensuring systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a technically varied environment and enjoys working independently while contributing to a wider engineering team.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance, testing, and reactive repairs on mechanical systems and plant.
Diagnose and repair faults on equipment including AHUs, FCUs, boilers, calorifiers, and general plantroom assets.
Work from technical drawings, specifications, and instructions without supervision.
Maintain plant rooms, workshops, and working environments to a high standard.
Record all work accurately using CAFM systems (e.g., Maximo or similar).
Support the development of safe systems of work and comply with all relevant regulations, including HTMs, Health & Safety legislation, and internal procedures.
Work safely at height using MEWPs, scaffolding, ladders, and other access equipment (training provided).
Respond to instructions via radio/PDA and adapt to changing priorities throughout the day.
Provide technical support to colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering team.
Undertake training to work towards AP/CP responsibilities in areas such as medical gases, pressure systems, water, or ventilation.
City & Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical Engineering qualifications.
Completed indentured apprenticeship or equivalent training.
Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems and plant.
Experience in a healthcare or PFI environment is beneficial but not essential.
Ability to work independently, interpret technical information, and solve problems effectively.
A proactive, open‑minded approach to learning new skills and supporting team performance.
Strong commitment to safe working practices and compliance.
A stable, long‑term role within a large, multi‑disciplinary engineering team.
