You are the compliance function.Reporting to a co-founder, with no layers above you and no inherited framework below. You decide where the real exposure sits across fraud, credit risk and AML, then build the controls — in the product with engineering where that's the right answer, in process where it isn't. Very few people get to draw the first version of this.
You take the EMI licence through to authorisation. The application is live with external advisers. The business is growing fast without it, so this is building for what comes next — not firefighting someone else's mess.
And the environment rewards it. Recently funded, around 50 people, AI-native and deliberately lean: minimal process, small teams, decisions made in the room. Real equity, and a genuine say in how the business scales.
Fully onsite in London, five days a week. That's the baseline; flexibility considered case by case.
What you'll bring:
- A payments background — this is a payments risk problem end to end.
- Genuine fraud and risk capability: able to reason about an unfamiliar model from first principles.
- Ability to pass the FCA fit and proper test.
- Technical enough to build your own dashboards and know what data sits where.
- Comfort in a low-process environment — this is judgement and ownership, not team building.
Top-tier fintech experience is a real advantage, as is having been Head of Compliance or number two through an EMI application. Product instincts go a long way.
