Part‑Time Mobile Caretaker (22 hours per week)
Hours: Monday to Wednesday, 9 - 5pm
Contract: Part‑Time until end of March 2026
£13.26 p/hr
Are you practical, reliable, and confident carrying out hands‑on maintenance tasks? We are looking for a Part‑Time Mobile Caretaker to help ensure a range of buildings remain safe, secure, and well‑maintained.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, problem‑solving, and keeping environments operating smoothly.
About the Role
You will be responsible for carrying out routine safety checks, basic repairs, and general caretaking duties across multiple buildings. Working during late afternoon and early evening hours, you'll help maintain safe access, tidy surroundings, and well‑functioning facilities.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Carry out minor repairs such as replacing light tubes, fixing loose fittings, adjusting valves, and unblocking waste pipes.
- Report any major defects or maintenance issues to the appropriate contact.
- Support the safe operation of heating and building systems.
- Complete routine safety checks, including:
- Testing fire alarms and emergency lighting
- Checking fire safety equipment
- Carrying out water hygiene tests
- Inspecting emergency exits
- Identify and report building defects, hazards, storm damage, or unsafe conditions.
- Test panic alarms and check security/automatic doors.
- Perform snow and ice clearance when required to maintain safe access routes.
- Maintain tidy external areas by sweeping paths, clearing gullies, and removing litter.
- Assist with internal cleaning where required, including carpet cleaning and emergency clean‑up tasks.
- Safely collect and dispose of sharps using appropriate PPE.
- Meet contractors on‑site and ensure correct procedures are followed.
- Act as a key holder and respond to out‑of‑hours incidents when needed.
- Record monthly readings for gas, electricity, and water.
- Undertake additional caretaking or facilities tasks appropriate to the role.
About You
You will be someone who:
- Is confident with basic maintenance tasks
- Is reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently
- Has good awareness of health and safety
- Communicates well with colleagues, visitors, and contractors
- Is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
- Can respond calmly and appropriately to unexpected situations
Experience in caretaking or facilities work is helpful but not essential.
