Operations Manager - Transport

Putting customer needs at the heart of what you do, you will manage and support operations across all departments, ensuring good reach their destinations safely, on time and in the most cost effective way

You will manage the department KPIs and maintain and build excellent relationships internally and externally

You will have a proven track record of creating and maintaining high standards, preferably in the transport industry

Responsibilities:

  • Planning for both short-term and long-term requirements to ensure business continuity and addressing gaps in both people and assets
  • Ensuring customer requirements are understood and carried out in a timely, controlled and recorded manner within the transport operation
  • Review opportunities for new business and manage and develop these opportunities to realisation
  • Ensure effective and efficient use of driver and vehicle resources at all times
  • Be proactive in achieving improved fuel efficiency and better MPG, as supported by efficient transport operations
  • Analysing data to monitor performance and plan improvements
  • Ensuring transport planning operations are in line with budgeted costs and achieve all contractual KPIs
  • Preparing and submitting various KPI reports and reporting to the company senior management
  • Working with maintenance department, ensure all fleet assets are maintained and serviced in line with planned and unplanned maintenance requirements
  • Working with H&S lead to promote effective and efficient standards of work, in order to comply with UK and EU laws and regulations and health & safety legislation
  • Support the personal development of all team members. Carry out performance reviews with the operational management team identifying training needs
  • Have responsibility for creation of an effective working environment building a diverse, well-balanced team, who have a culture of continuous improvement and exceeding customer expectations to drive business success
  • Key stakeholder in driver recruitment, training and retention
  • Ensuring driver compliance to Tachograph & WTD rules

Key Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous Management experience with a proven track record, preferably in the transport industry
  • Experience of container and general haulage traffic within the Transport industry
  • Ability to manage financial aspects of a transport operation with the ability to improve business performance based on data and information
  • Ability to manage and lead people and excellent communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Driver Hours and WTD regulations
  • Transport Manager CPC qualification preferred but not essential
  • Excellent IT literacy with applicable software systems used in transport
  • Good understanding of Transport Regulations
