Senior Finance Officer
Location: Rochdale, OL16
Salary: £18.26 per hour, paid weekly - every Friday!
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday - 37 hours per week
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Finance Officer to join a dynamic public sector finance team. This role is integral to the delivery of statutory and business-critical financial functions, including budget setting, monitoring, closure of accounts, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting effective decision-making and ensuring robust financial systems and controls are in place.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate and timely financial information to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Lead on financial processes including budget preparation, monitoring, and year-end accounts.
- Provide financial advice and support to service areas, ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
- Manage and develop staff within the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Contribute to corporate initiatives and projects from a financial perspective.
- Ensure financial systems are secure, efficient, and effectively utilised.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including auditors, funding bodies, and partner organisations.
- Support the implementation of automation and streamlined processes to enhance service delivery.
What we are looking for:
- Proven experience in a finance role within a public sector or similar environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of financial regulations, procedures, and systems.
- Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in Excel and financial software.
- Ability to manage and develop staff, and work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.

Desirable:
- Professional finance qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIPFA) or working towards one.
- Experience in preparing statutory accounts and financial returns.
