As part of HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Group, Service Central & Technical Services (SC&TS) are accountable for the digital strategy and end-to-end IT services to enable us to create brilliant IT systems and services. 

Job description

As a Senior Technical Architect, you will be the expert for the technical design of solutions for the ServiceNow platform, its interfaces, and integrations. Ensuring technical solutions adhere to relevant standards and best practice, are resilient as possible and that the security of any integrations and interfaces meet security requirements.

Working alongside other architects, you will provide support and offer design solutions to technology challenges. You will understand the technologies in use, the overall architecture strategy and how your work supports this.

You will work closely with development scrum teams, business partners and IT colleagues to design appropriate solutions that ensure operational delivery and fit with strategic end-to-end functional design.

We work closely with the other platform groups and their partners to bring those IT Systems and Services together and use the ServiceNow Platform capability to drive operational efficiencies, reduce costs and improve customer and colleague experience.

Person specification

You will have a good track record in delivering customer - focused technology change with a strong emphasis on quality.

A confident and skilled communicator, you will be able to articulate technical detail to non-technical people, so it is understood.

You will be a credible, influential, and encouraging team-player: Someone who is self-motivated, with a proven dedication to continuous improvement in self and others.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:

• Working with colleagues to understand and design technical solutions that ensure operational delivery.
• Understanding CDIO & HMRC systems and the technologies that deliver those systems.
• Understanding the wider HMRC technology systems and strategies.
• Playing a leading role on specific technical aspects of the service delivery of CDIO & HMRC systems.
• Articulating technical viewpoints to technical and non-technical colleagues, senior management and business partners.
• Provide mentoring within teams.
• Provide leadership to Technical Architects within your team.

Essential Criteria: 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical knowledge and experience in the following:

• Technical Architecture experience with a strong background in enterprise architecture, solution design and systems integration. Governing high and low-level designs with full lifecycle management, from requirements management to supporting the operations teams with service introduction.
• Experience in establishing professional relationships and communicating with a range of stakeholders.
• Public cloud technologies.
• Ability to simplify complex / technical information by using appropriate and accessible language for non-technical audiences.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate clearly.

Desirable Criteria:

These are the tools and experience we would like you to have, but don’t worry if you don’t have them. We welcome applicants with a broad and varied range of experience and technical knowledge.

• ServiceNow Knowledge and Certification.
• Agile methodologies and principles.
• Experience with ITIL processes, cloud platforms and DevOps practices.
• Enterprise and software architecture, encompassing data, application and technology, including security principles and data protection regulations.
• Enterprise application integration.
• Experience of working in a government department or similarly secure environment.

Other Information

This role requires National Security Vetting checks at Security Clearance (SC) level which you must either hold, or be willing to obtain, prior to take up of duty.
