As our Software Developer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Your world of expertise 

As a Software Developer you will have space to work with other developers building and implementing technical solutions providing critical space weather services to Met Office customers. You will create the forecaster visualisation tools used by our expert forecasters in the Met Office Space Weather Operations Centre.

Your key duties:

develop software to meet user needs
follow best practice guidelines and help to improve those guidelines
write clean, secure and well-tested code
coach and mentor more junior colleagues
operate the services you build and identify issues in production

Person specification

Experience of working with Amazon AWS cloud computing environments to develop and deliver services including AWS Serverless and Terraform (We're expert by nature).
Capable of independently designing, coding (Typescript, Angular), testing and documenting solutions, working closely with others to review and refine specifications (We're expert by nature).
Knowledge of architectural principles of security, resilience, cost, performance and operations (We keep evolving).
Experience of working as part of an Agile team, successfully deploying solutions to operational environments, and providing guidance to junior team members (We’re better together).
Demonstrable initiative for solving real world problems, demonstrating you have also considered the ‘bigger picture’, ensuring service continuity and user focus (Force for Good).
