Stores Manager

pire Dunedin | Reading | Store Manager | Permanent | Full Time | 37.5 Hours per Week

Are you an experienced Stores Manager who thrives in a hands-on role and enjoys leading a busy stores operation within a healthcare environment?

At Spire Dunedin Hospital, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our clinical teams have the supplies and equipment they need to deliver exceptional patient care. Leading a dedicated team, you'll ensure the hospital has the supplies and equipment needed to support outstanding patient care, while maintaining effective stock control and financial governance.

Spire Dunedin Hospital has been serving the Reading community for over 100 years and is a well-established private hospital located in the heart of Reading. Our services include surgery, oncology and endoscopy, supported by modern facilities and a committed multidisciplinary team.

About the Role

As Stores Manager, you'll be responsible for the smooth running of the hospital stores function, ensuring stock is available where and when it's needed to support exceptional patient care.

This is a very hands-on role and will suit someone who enjoys being actively involved in the day-to-day operation of a busy stores department. You'll lead from the front, working alongside your team, managing deliveries, stock movements, replenishment and supplier issues, while ensuring departments across the hospital have the supplies they need.

While you'll oversee stock control, purchasing processes and financial governance, the majority of the role is operational rather than office-based. You'll be a visible presence within the department and around the hospital, supporting your team and helping to keep the service running efficiently.

Working closely with colleagues across the hospital, you'll lead stock management activities, oversee purchasing processes, resolve supplier and invoice queries, and ensure the department operates effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the stores team to ensure departments are appropriately stocked and patient services are never impacted.
  • Manage stock levels across the hospital, regularly reviewing PAR levels to balance product availability with effective cost control.
  • Coordinate the ordering and purchasing of stock and non-stock items across all hospital departments.
  • Ensure consignment agreements are accurate, up to date and fully compliant.
  • Oversee purchase order processes, ensuring correct approvals and company procedures are followed.
  • Manage supplier, delivery, invoice and stock queries, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and effectively.
  • Monitor bills on hold and ensure timely resolution.
  • Support capital purchasing requirements, ensuring compliance with company purchasing policies.
  • Maintain safe working practices and compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and clinical teams.

Who We're Looking For:

You'll be a proactive and organised leader who enjoys being part of the day-to-day operation and leading by example.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Previous stock management experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good commercial and financial awareness.
  • The ability to negotiate, influence and build effective working relationships.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to support all aspects of the stores operation.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a healthcare or hospital environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare products and medical consumables.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Warehouse and Distribution, or equivalent experience.
