Our team  

The Architecture Team sits within Mobility & Workplace Services (MWPS) and manages the infrastructure which enables access to HMRC services. We need to be able to fully understand the architecture behind the services, by gathering information, considering how the services fit into our IT estate and using this information to create a ‘roadmap’. 
 
We are accountable for the MWPS Technology Strategy. This includes user devices (PCs, tablets, printers, audio visual for meeting rooms), directory/admin services, Microsoft Office365 and Assistive Technology. 

Job description

As a Technical Architect you will be responsible for coordinating the technical governance process in Solution Architecture Board (SAB). You will be responsible for creating and maintaining IT Infrastructure Roadmaps. You will be clarifying and validating requests for Architectural support to deliver external projects and to provide assistance from within the Team. You will be working with Senior Technical Architects to create high level designs supporting the introduction and amendment of new solutions.

Main Responsibilities: 

Manage technical platforms governance process (for existing, new and end of life services).
Gather information to inform and build service designs and solutions. 
Present plans and communicate progress to the Senior Leadership Team.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop the technology strategy.  

Essential Criteria

Experience in IT service delivery across large-scale, complex environments, ideally within government or regulated sectors.  
Experience of desktop IT systems management and associated IT Infrastructure technology. 
Knowledge and use of IT infrastructure roadmaps, aligning with organisational strategy and technology trends. 
Familiarity with desktop IT systems management, including Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, and endpoint device strategy. 
Understanding of cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS) and their integration into hybrid infrastructure environments. 
Analytical/problem solving and planning skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Resilience/ability to challenge appropriately. 

Desirable Criteria 

Experience in coordinating technical governance processes, including solution architecture boards or similar forums.  
Experience in developing and maintaining IT infrastructure roadmaps, aligning with organisational strategy and technology trends. 
Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman) and their practical application in service design and delivery.  
Ability to produce high-level technical designs and documentation that support new and existing services, ensuring alignment with architectural principles.
