Weed Spraying Street Cleansing Operative

Location: Oldbury, West Midlands, B69 2BP

Salary: £26,097.55 per annum + excellent benefits

Full Time: 37 hours per week fixed term contract (finishing in December 2025)

Working hours: Monday - Friday, flexible day work to meet the business needs.

As a Street Cleansing Driver/Operative in our Oldbury team, you'll provide a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of the residents and community in West Midlands. With a professional, dedicated and friendly team of Street Cleansing staff, we ensure that streets, homes and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to all members of the community that we serve.

 

If you hold a quad or motorbike licence this would be a high advantage but full training will be given.


You'll be entrusted to:

  • To carry out both programmed and responsive Street Cleansing functions daily with skills and knowledge of all machinery aspects of the job.
  • To understand Contract requirements, the specification of all Street Cleansing.
  • To identify and understand key performance indicators and ensure that these are met.
  • Responsible for the daily inspection and reporting procedure for machinery, prior and on completion of usage, including vehicles.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of machinery and vehicles.
  • To undergo specific training to improve skill levels and knowledge of Contract requirments as and when defined training is identified as being required or available.
  • To carry out any of these Street Cleansing functions but not exhaustive: Litter picking, scraping away weeds and detritus, digging out channels, manually sweeping and shovelling silt, cleaning dog mess, removing flyposting, removing graffiti, emptying litter and dog bins and removal of fly tipped waste.
  • Using Street Cleansing carts and barrows as and when required.
  • Participate in weekend working rota as and when required.
  • During periods of inclement weather, participate in snow removal and gritted directed by the contract.
  • Use of in-cab technology as directed by the contract. Completing relevant templates and submitting worksheets in real time.
  • Take on adhoc or additional duties when required when there are limited resources within the team and assist where required across any of the SERCO sites as directed by the Manager.
  • Use a practical problem solving approach and being able to resolve issues through to conclusion or escalating as appropriate.
