🧑‍🍳 Second Chef

Purpose

To prepare, cook, and serve food to high standards, manage and motivate kitchen staff, uphold hygiene and safety protocols, and support daily catering operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Catering Manager when needed
  • Assist with staff scheduling and work allocation
  • Support food ordering, storage, and defect reporting
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations
  • Monitor food temperatures and hygiene standards
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and follow opening/closing procedures
  • Develop personal skills and support team training

Performance Indicators

  • Contribution to gross profits and budget goals
  • Improvements in health & safety, client satisfaction, and food quality

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or NVQ Level 2
  • Basic food safety certification
  • Strong communication and numerical skills
  • Knowledge of food safety and health regulations
  • Teamwork and attention to detail

Desirable:

  • IOSH/CIEH qualifications
  • Catering industry experience, ideally in a military setting

Additional Info

  • May require travel, overnight stays, and flexible working hour
