🧑🍳 Second Chef
 
Purpose
To prepare, cook, and serve food to high standards, manage and motivate kitchen staff, uphold hygiene and safety protocols, and support daily catering operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deputise for the Catering Manager when needed
- Assist with staff scheduling and work allocation
- Support food ordering, storage, and defect reporting
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations
- Monitor food temperatures and hygiene standards
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and follow opening/closing procedures
- Develop personal skills and support team training
Performance Indicators
- Contribution to gross profits and budget goals
- Improvements in health & safety, client satisfaction, and food quality
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or NVQ Level 2
- Basic food safety certification
- Strong communication and numerical skills
- Knowledge of food safety and health regulations
- Teamwork and attention to detail
Desirable:
- IOSH/CIEH qualifications
- Catering industry experience, ideally in a military setting
Additional Info
- May require travel, overnight stays, and flexible working hour
