Spire Parkway Hospital have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Deputy Pathology Manager. We are looking for an experienced professional looking for the next step in their career.

Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, West Midlands offers a comprehensive range of private hospital services. Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states, "Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers."

Our dedicated hospital team are passionate about excellent patient care and we offer a range of specialist treatments to patients across Birmingham, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures and excellence in specialist fields like orthopaedics, women's health and cancer care. We have 51 bedrooms and five operating theatres.

Duties and responsibilities:

Deputise within the pathology department, local hospital and spoke hospital sites in the absence of the Pathology Manager

  • Liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Manage and develop the services within their specialised area expertise of the pathology service, and across a range of services provided by the laboratory.
  • Assist in the work routines of areas of the laboratory, commensurate with their specialist areas of pathology expertise.
  • Assist the Pathology Manager in maintaining and supporting the effective use of physical and financial resources
  • Support the Pathology Manager by undertaking human resource activities for the pathology team.
  • Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise.
  • Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
  • Promotes best practice in health and safety and security.
  • Lead others in the quality improvement of pathology services and Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practices

Who we're looking for:

  • Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, some preferably at a senior/management level in a Hospital
  • Fully trained in all clinical laboratory procedures, preferably including biopsy
  • Possess medical device competencies
  • Working within a performance driven culture while maintaining safe standards.
  • Experience in a scientific laboratory
  • Achieved ISO 15189 accreditation.
  • Working within a quality assurance and control culture maintaining safe standards.
  • Willing to travel on company business and to share expertise between hospital locations.
  • Experience of independent sector, Experience of working in partnership with consultants and participating in creating innovative solution for new pathology services.
  • Professional assessment skills
  • Trained on MS Office and other relevant packages
  • Business Development skills e.g. creation of business cases
  • High level of attention to detail and focused
  • Excellent communication skills
