Senior Biomedical Scientist - Quality Lead | Pathology | Full Time | Permanent | Leeds - LS8

Spire Leeds is currently looking for an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist - Quality Lead to join the Pathology Department on a full time, permanent basis.

The pathology quality lead role covers all aspects of Pathology at the Leeds hub and Yorkshire spoke sites this covers all disciplines.

In addition, we require the candidate to be able to demonstrate Haematology Specialist knowledge and to take on the Haematology section lead role at the Leeds hub and Yorkshire spoke sites.

Spire Leeds Hospital, located in Roundhay, Leeds, has been treating patients for almost 30 years. We are the region's largest private hospital in terms of the range of services we offer and the number of consultants we work with. The hospital offers a range of services and facilities including four operating theatres, a sterile services department, a dedicated endoscopy suite, and a diagnostic and imaging department with an MRI and CT scanner. There are outpatient and physiotherapy departments providing services six days per week

Duties and responsibilities

To assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services for spoke site Hospitals

To liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Take a lead role in the local implementation of the pathology quality management system, in accordance with UKAS requirements and corporate recommendations.

To liaise with the National Pathology Quality Management Team in relation to local hub and spoke laboratory Quality Management systems and accreditation status

  • Develop practice including investigation and reporting, within your areas of specialist expertise.
  • Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
  • Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
  • Assist with research and development.
  • Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise..
  • Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
  • Promotes best practice in health and safety and security.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing services.
  • Deliver quality improvement with the department senior team.
  • Support and enable equality, diversity and rights.
  • Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.

Who we're looking for

  • Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Registered Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council for a minimum of 5 years
  • Experienced within Haematology is essential or completed IBMS Haematology Specialist Portfolio
  • Working within a performance driven culture while maintaining safe standards.
  • Meeting financial and budgetary targets.
  • Supporting the commercial development of pathology services locally
  • Experience in a scientific laboratory ideally hospital based
