Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Blood Transfusion

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop practice including investigation and reporting, within your areas of specialist expertise.
  • Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
  • Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
  • Assist with research and development.
  • Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise..
  • Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
  • Ensure all staff working within the Blood Transfusion section of the department are trained and competent in the subject
  • Ensure Blood Transfusion services are ready for inspection by MHRA and UKAS at any point
  • Attend the hospital HTC committee
  • Raise Blood Transfusion Incidents in a timely manner in Datix, to the Pathology Manager and Director of Clinical Service at the relevant site
  • Develop practice in pathology investigation and reporting, within your specialist areas of expertise.
  • Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
  • Develop the movement of laboratory specimens, blood and tissues.
  • Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations.

Who we're looking for:

  • Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • At least 3 years blood transfusion experience
  • Experience in haematology and biochemistry is desirable, but not essential as training in these areas will be given.

Contract: Full-time permanent

Hours: A mixture of earlies, lates and weekends as part of a rota. 37.5 hours per week plus on call outside of these hours for which there are extra sessional standby payments.
