Relief Chefs for care homes

Location: Stoke on Trent, Newcastle Under Lyme, Crewe, Leek, Nantwich, Congleton, Staffordshire, and surrounding areas.

Contract type: Temporary flexible working both full time and part time
Hourly rate: £17 to £20 per hour dependant on chef level
Temporary: Full time & part time

We are currently looking to recruit several Enhanced DBS Chefs and Cooks to work within Care homes, retirement villages, nursing homes, some can even be required to work with Prisons.

Please note: to work within a care home, prison or NHS environment you must hold an enhanced DBS dated within last 12 months, or on the update service, covering adult workforce. Don't worry we have the facilities to process one for you at a cost.

You will be required to help and support with any sickness, short term, and long term, also to support with the increase demand. The ideal candidate will be working with fresh nutritious food adhering to dietary requirements, cooking a variety of sold, modified and texture meals ensuring residents have a hot meal provided daily.

  • Even though a lot of your roles will be on a temporary basis, these can quite easily lead to permanent work for the right candidates.

Working Hours:
You can choose your working rota each week, but dependant on what you choose to work the working hours will vary from site to site. We can off both full time, part time flexible days, weekends. Majority of chefs shifts range between 6/7am till 6/7pm. We do have clients who operate in restaurants pubs and hotels these will be a later finish please consider this.

The working environment:
Due to the various different types of sites we cover your working environment will change from site to site. We will look to place you in the most comfortable environments for you. We currently do supply to contract catering sites, Hotels, Restaurants, pubs, cafes, Prisons, schools, academies, nurseries, (if you have an child enhanced DBS within last 12 months or on the update service.) and care homes, hotels, restaurants, golf clubs, event establishments, I am sure we have something to fit your experience and needs.

Main Duties

  • Work within as part of a team
  • Putting away stock and deliveries.
  • Working to the IDDSI framework to ensure meals are prepared correctly.
  • Food orders, dependant on the role you are placed into i.e head chef/chef manager.
  • Preparation of food including variety in diets which included texture diets, blended meals, and modified meals.
  • Prepping/tidying areas of the kitchen including pot washing.
  • Adhering to all relevant health and safety requirements
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed for the day
  • Cooking nutritious food within requirements
  • Ensure a clean as you go policy is being operated at all times
  • Possibly serving food and/or operating a till
  • Possibility of pot washing in some sites due to smaller number of residents on site.

Requirements and skills:

  • Previous experience as a chef working within care homes and nursing homes
  • Experience with the IDDSI framework to prepare and cook texture diets
  • Flexibility in shift patterns including weekends
  • Great communication and team work skills
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate dated within the last 3 years. (ideal but not essential as training is provided)
  • Level 2 Health and Safety Certificate (ideal but not essential as training is provided)
  • Passion for food
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Due to certain locations a full UK driving license is required along with own access to a vehicle
  • Ability to cover ad hoc days due to client demand - you maybe required to cover same day requirements or bookings within less than 24 hours' notice, to cover absences and holiday cover. Please consider this.
  • A DBS (essential - as mentioned above)

The Commute:

As we cover a large number of locations across Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent your commute will vary. If you're limited to public transport, we'll only send you to places that have public transport links and provide you with all the information you will need to get there.
